Dear Langscape community (and beyond),
The LEM editors call for contribution proposals to the upcoming 2026 volume of Language Education and Multilingualism. We invite original research papers relating to the theme of Taboo language and plurilingualism: perspectives on language education.
The upcoming volume of LEM will publish original research and theory-driven applied research on topics focusing on taboo language practices and plurilingualism in language education contexts in Europe and worldwide such as:
- aspects of (non-)legitimacy and (non-)inclusivity in plurilingual language education
- language learners’ register choice in relation to pragmatic competence in multilingual contexts
- plurilinguals’ identity as regards language behaviour and register variation
- censorship and appropriateness, politeness and impoliteness, norms and beliefs around language use in multilingual learning contexts
- group-related enmities such as misogyny, racism, and sexism in plurilingual education
- (non)-treatment of taboo language in language education materials
- teachers’ pedagogical positioning and responsibility on how to tackle certain taboo language related phenomena
- policy-makers decisions regarding the inclusion of taboo language in plurilingual teaching and learning contexts
- audiovisual translation (AVT) of literary adaptations that include taboo expressions in foreign language learning (dubbing, subtitling …)
- taboos in evaluation / assessment in multilingual contexts.
The editors of LEM invite proposals for contributions that address one or several of the above areas. Proposals of 1.5 to 2 pages should be sent by January 9ht, 2026.
