Tuesday, May 3rd, 4-8 pm, DOR 65, 355, OR
Thursday, May 5th, 4-8 pm, DOR 65, 333
This workshop* will focus on acquiring and practising the necessary skills to participate successfully in an academic seminar in the UK.
The workshop will be divided into three parts:

  • preparing for seminars
  • participating in seminars
  • assessing your performance

The first part of the workshop will introduce key phrases common to seminars, examine skills such as interrupting and holding the floor and focus on reading for seminars.
The second part of the workshop will consist of a practice seminar with opportunities for students to provide short informal presentations that will serve as the stimulus for group discussion.
In the third part of the workshop, students will receive feedback on their performance, with suggestions for improving both language (grammar and vocabulary) and presentation skills (pronunciation, body language etc.)
